What Intercom is

Intercom is a mature, feature-rich customer service platform with a leading AI agent (Fin), deep automation and workflows, omnichannel and proactive messaging, and enterprise features like SSO and HIPAA support. It's priced per seat, plus $0.99 per Fin AI outcome.

Where Intercom wins

  • The most capable of the tools here: advanced workflows, automation, omnichannel and proactive messaging.
  • Fin is a leading AI agent with strong resolution quality and a standalone option.
  • A deep integration ecosystem and enterprise features (SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs, multibrand).
  • Designed to scale to large, complex support organisations.

Where ConvChat wins

  • One published price per project — no per-seat fees and no $0.99-per-outcome AI charge.
  • No “assumed resolutions”: Intercom bills Fin outcomes even when the customer just stops replying. ConvChat's AI on Growth and Scale has no outcome fee.
  • Unlimited agents on every project — no $29/agent/mo Copilot add-on either.
  • Much cheaper for operator-heavy teams: headcount does not multiply the project price.

Intercom pricing, in plain terms

As of July 2026, Intercom's suite is per seat: Essential $29, Advanced $85 (20 Lite seats included) and Expert $132 (50 Lite seats) per seat/mo billed annually — $39/$99/$139 on monthly billing. On top of seats, the Fin AI agent costs $0.99 per outcome. The Copilot assistant for human agents is another $29/agent/mo, and channels like SMS, WhatsApp and phone are pay-as-you-go. The combination is why bill shocks are well documented: public reports include a team whose bill jumped from about $4k to $9k a month, and a small startup that went from $119 to $854/mo.

Which should you choose?

Choose Intercom

Pick Intercom if you need best-in-class automation, omnichannel and enterprise features, and your budget can absorb per-seat plus per-outcome pricing as you scale.

Choose ConvChat

Pick ConvChat if you want the core — live chat, a shared inbox and optional AI — at a predictable per-project price without per-seat or per-resolution metering. It's aimed at smaller teams and agencies, not large enterprise support orgs.

ConvChat vs Intercom — FAQ

Is ConvChat cheaper than Intercom?
For most small teams, yes. Intercom charges per seat ($29–$132/seat/mo annual, $39–$139 monthly as of July 2026) plus $0.99 per Fin AI outcome, $29/agent/mo for Copilot and usage fees. ConvChat starts at CHF 49 per project with unlimited agents; AI is included on Growth and Scale. At large scale with heavy automation, Intercom may justify its cost with capabilities ConvChat doesn't match yet.
What counts as a Fin “resolution” (outcome)?
Since March 2026 Intercom bills Fin at $0.99 per “outcome”, including “assumed resolutions” where the customer simply stops replying. ConvChat has no per-resolution billing; its AI is included in the Growth and Scale project price.
Why do Intercom bills jump unexpectedly?
Because cost scales with three multipliers at once: seats, Fin outcomes and channel usage. Success on any of them raises the bill. Documented examples include a bill going from about $4k to $9k a month, and a startup going from $119 to $854/mo. ConvChat charges per project and plan, with a published Scale allowance of 20,000 conversations per project each month.
Is ConvChat as powerful as Intercom?
Honestly, no — Intercom is more mature, with deeper automation, omnichannel and enterprise features, and Fin is a leading AI agent. ConvChat focuses on live chat, a shared inbox, optional AI and email continuation at a clear per-project price.
When should I still choose Intercom?
Choose Intercom for large or complex support operations that need advanced workflows, omnichannel, proactive messaging, or enterprise compliance (SSO, HIPAA, SLAs, multibrand).

Full disclosure: ConvChat is our product, so we’re not a neutral party — but every Intercom figure here comes from public sources, current as of July 2026. Competitor pricing changes often; check their pricing page for the latest. ConvChat is a young product, and some features are still on the roadmap.
